South Eastern Centre Motocross Combine Minutes December 1998

MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE SOUTH EASTERN MOTO CROSS COMBINE HELD ON WEDNESDAY 9TH DECEMBER 1998 AFTER THE AGM AT BLINDLEY HEATH.

PRESENT : 21 Delegates were present representing the following Clubs :- Brighton, Crawley, GEST, Greenwich, Horsham, Sidcup, South Eastern Marshals & Twickenham.

APOLOGIES FOR ABSENCE : Apologies for absence were received from Mrs. Slight and Mrs. Hayden.

CHAIR : Mr. Eddie Herd took the Chair.

MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING : It was proposed Mr. Horton and seconded Mr. Edwards that the minutes that had been circulated of the last meeting on October 14th were an accurate record. Carried.

MATTERS ARISING THEREFROM :

Seminar : Mrs. Clarke said that she had arranged the date with the Centre Secretary and asked Colin Boniface , the environmental man in the Centre to attend and give a brief talk. Mr. Clarke would be conducting the Seminar and it was expected that there would be a fairly full turn out because many existing licences were due for re-newal this year.

Four Centres Experiment : Mr. Brown said that he attended the last NMC meeting where it was agreed to extend the experiment to 5 Centres being included in an RR permit so long as the Centres all abutted each other in some way. He also reported on the Four Centres recent meeting which went very well on the day although the Eastern Centre is still being a bit hesitant. It was agreed that all the dates which had been submitted to the meeting would be run under RR permits and that there would now be no need for each individual Club to apply to all the Centres concerned for permission to run. Mr. Piles was also aware of this, but if you wanted the regulations for your event to go in another Centre's Gazette it was up to the Club to sort that out with the other Centres.

Profile of the Centre Championships : Mr. Wood said that he understood from the last meeting that concern was expressed over the size of the logo on the proposed programme covers and he gave assurances that it could be made bigger. Mr. Moores asked if he had any idea on costs to the clubs, Mr. Wood thought an 8 page x 250 copies + a cover would run out to £70. The costs of the cover being met by advertising. He stated that he did not want to get involved with hunting for sponsorship and felt the Clubs could do it better as they have their own contacts. He would envisage a back cover price of £500, the inside cover £300 or £200 per half page [ colour]. Mrs. Clarke thought the Clubs would struggle to get this additional sponsorship. There followed a lot of discussion on various ways of obtaining sponsorship monies and finally it was resolved that each Club should try and find a ½ page advertiser @ £75. Proposed Mr. Moores and seconded Mr. Brown. Carried. Mr. Wood to try and cost this out and each Club to come back with a sponsor or take the space itself at the next meeting on 16th February. Discussion also took place about the logo appearing on the regulations all around the edge of the page

Centre Board : Mr. Herd the Centre Board had ratified our proposal submitted by the Brighton Club at the last meeting regarding change of Championship Dates not being allowed in future.

Moto Cross Committee Vacancies : Mrs. Clarke asked Mr. Herd how the voting had gone as there had been no publicity on the outcome. He replied that Nik Fisk and Dave Nicholl had been elected.

CENTRE CHAMPIONSHIP DATES There was some discussion regarding change of dates since the dates meeting due to Grand Prix date changes which then affected the home Championships and again it was noted there was a distinct lack of publicity coming from the Moto Cross Committee. Mr. Wood said the calendar would be published in the February Gazette and he reminded Clubs that regs for Centre Championship Rounds must be in a Gazette at least 21 days before the event.

ACU MOTO CROSS COMMITTEE MINUTES : Mrs. Clarke said that although she had requested the minutes from Rugby they had not arrived. Mr. Brown managed to find one set of minutes in his brief case for the September meeting after perusal it seemed the only thing to affect us might be a new official position of Environmental Officer at meetings.

MOTO CROSS FORUM MEETING AT THE ACU RUGBY : Mrs. Clarke asked which Clubs would be sending a representative and Greenwich and Sidcup said they were.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS :

Marshals : Mr. Wood wondered if anyone had thought about addressing the shortage of marshals by forming a moto cross marshals club. Mr. Horton said they had someone in the GEST club who had about 10 people he used regularly, Mr. Herd thought it would be a good idea if he came to the seminar and perhaps even our next meeting.

Entry Forms : Mr. Wood said this was the time of year when he reviewed the entry forms that went in the gazette he was proposing to include the £10 dual class and asked delegates if there was anything else that needed sorting out. Mr. Batten thought the Fourstrokes needed to also have a definition as to whether they were Junior or Expert riders.

Stewards : Mr. Brown said that in future Centre Stewards would probably be appointed to all speed events, and the way in which billing was done by the Centre would be changed with the emphasis on the Clubs working the amount out and sending it off to Ken Piles.

TwinShocks : Mrs. Clarke said that at the last meeting we had promised to discuss the possibility of starting a twin shock class, Sidcup, GEST, Greenwich and Crawley all agreed dates.Mrs. Clarke to publicise these.

There being nothing further to discuss the meeting closed at 10.15pm.
