Ray keeps Cool'

By DICK LAW...Ray Smith (pictured) had a large grin on his face at the end of the Crawley club's South-Eastern centre championship motocross at Patmans Farm, Coolham, Sussex, on Sunday.

And why not? He started in nine races and won eight on his 525 Advance Racing Services KTM – he finished second in the only leg he didn't win! Craig Daffin got the holeshot in the first outing for the Ace Four-stroke championship riders, with Allen Clark in his wheel tracks, but as the pack disappeared round the track for the first time, Clark was not among them, as he was a fallen in turn two. But by the halfway stage Smith had passed Steve Wood for second place and closed the gap on Daffin to four seconds. Rob Mead was a distant third and Lewis King fourth as Daffin slipped to fifth.
