IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FROM BRIGHTON & D.M.C.C

. Following a track inspection by the Brighton Club Officials it has been decided to CANCEL the Moto Cross due to be run this coming weekend 21st September 2003.

The South Downs have had no significant rain for over 2 months and the ground is parched. The normally lush green grass is withering and there is no moisture retained in the soil. The club officials looked at various options such as making the track longer, running shorter races etc., but we would still be faced with dust by the interval, if not sooner. We would rather not run, if we cannot maintain the high standard of meeting that has become the norm of the Brighton Club. We realise that it is probable that we could not complete the programme and would not like to be accused of starting something that we could not finish, and having unhappy customers. We also have a duty of care to our competitors and marshals whom we must not put at risk, knowing that we could not control the dust would be doing just that.

Watering the course is not an option, the dew ponds on the downs are all dry and there are no surface streams or ponds available to us . All the waterways on the South Downs are underground.

I apologise in advance if you get this message through various medias, however it is better that we let as many people know as possible. Would you please be so kind as to pass this on to anyone you know who might be thinking of going on Sunday.
