Report - By John Powell
Premier MX ran the forth round of their club motocross championship on Sunday with the Ellens Green track the perfect arena for some brilliant bar to bar, go to woe racing I have had the pleasure of witnessing for some time. This was our first meeting that did not clash with a Schoolboy National and we were treated to some awesome racing.
National jockeys Tommy Wright, Brett Fisher, Brian Hartland and Louis Waugh in the B/W 85 group were on fire on the beautifully harrowed and watered track, after two wins the crowd were treated to an epic race with Brett taking the holeshot and the relentless shadow of Tommy throughout the race climaxing in a dash for the line with Brett on the Wiseco Honda just holding on and Tommy passing the chequered sideways. Louis meanwhile was crashing out of some flying starts but as soon as he stays on two wheels consistently he will be worrying the fast three at the flag. James Phare was right there at the front till the bike failed and Ben Peay made fifth place his own as he pressed on just behind the leading mob..
The Open youth class was another fierce battle with Jack Grover and Mark Harrison thrilling the crowd in their second race and only the lap scorers knew who got the win but if you see Jack in another tight race its just as entertaining watching his mum. In the deciding third moto Jack made sure of the win as he pushed flat out for race distance, while Mark, Billy Searle and Niki Huntley followed him home. Chris Glover started the day badly hitting the gate and started dead last but the class new boy was soon up the front with his best ride in sixth spot. Stephen Sapford managed to hold off Adam Rose who was getting quicker all day as he got used to his new bike and sorted out the gearing.
Tommy Searle the team green rider put on an awesome display in the S/W 85s, as he disappeared into the distance and the way he jumped the run off jump was brilliant, the second spot was elusive as Gino Rea, Mitchell Jenkins and Daniel Smith shared the spot, but a good O/A for Mitchell disappeared as he tipped off in his last race and only recovered to fourteenth. Lloyd Evans started the day well with a good third place but his second race was a disaster. Oliver Weeks and Aaron Morgan enjoyed some close racing with Scott Mannah joining in the fun and split the pair in the last race.
Three different winners in the Junior 65s reflected the competitive racing in this group, Danny Rye, Kray Till and Mel Pocock all took wins but it was the consistent Mel who picked up the days O/A win. Damon Hill continued his good form as he just headed Daryl Maxwell. Craig Bliss was next along having lost some valuable points in race three. The mid pack riders are all on a good pace and Lee Rathbourne and Thomas Jenkins proved that the good starts are everything. Its nice to see our Junior 65 group growing and enjoying the Premier MX tracks.
Iron man Paul “Wildman” Willis incredibly won both Adult groups and it wasn’t easy as Dean Lane had won the first two motos and Keith Best had battled all the way to take third, the last race had the Wildman behind but he just did not give up and as the three swapped places it was eventually Paul who took the win and the O/A as Dean had to settle for third " I wasn't .tired said Dean but Besty and Paul both rode really well" said the likable pollgate rider.
Paul “Wildman” Willis competition in the 125 Adults was in the shape of Steve Wells and Zimbabwean Dustin Whitehead who took the runner up spots. Ryan Lang got equal points for third O/A with Dustin on the Motoward Yamaha and Ryans brother Ross followed him home in forth his best result for some time.
The club are at back at Ellens Green on August 10th/11th please fill out the regs and get them off to us soon.
We hope Nicola Cheshire, Lee Archer and Geoff Wallace soon get overt their injuries and Daniel Leathem who got knocked out and forgot what happened to him also remembers the 20 quid he owes me.
