Report - By John Powell
We ran our third club championship last Sunday on the Warninglid track south of Gatwick which was looking good after more work lengthening the circuit we now have permission to add more loops at the left of the valley so the laps should be getting near 2 minuets.
The main object of the day was to crack on with the meeting before the forecast bad weather arrived at lunchtime but of course the unfortunate accident to Dave Winchester cost us an hour and we lost the last 2 races, the good news is that first reports about Dave are he has a broken collarbone and bruising to the neck, at this point I would like to say how lucky we are to have Bernie & Mary with us all year they do know their stuff and only do what's right for the welfare of our riders.
The open adults bedded in the new turns with Keith Best on the Yamaha 426 heading the full line up and managing to hold off the relentless charge of Dean Lane for the first laps but Dean pushed to the front in all 3 motos on the booming 450 Honda. The last podium place was where the action was thick and fast with Dean Whiting, Jon Wood and Steven Ruddock all claiming the elusive third spot after some race long battles. The Adult 125s were equally hectic and Ryan Lang looked in charge as he headed Matt Hutchins in the red flagged race, the restart had the same order until Ryan fell mid race and Paul “Wildman” Willis never stopped battling for the lead. Steve Wells was getting stronger all day as he headed South African Dustin Whithead in his first Adult race on the MotoWard Yamaha 125.
The depleted Youth 125 group could do with some more entrants but the clubs next meeting at the fabulous Ellens Green should see the class expand, meanwhile Jack Grover headed home Adam Rose who dumped it several times and David Wiggins picked up some good points
Big wheeled 85 ace Jamie Arnold was on fire on this track as he mixed it with the bigger class with Luke Arter picking up runner up places. Third however was in doubt as both Gareth Morley and Christopher Cooper shared the honours but the consistent Perry Callow grabbed forth O/A as Gareth DNF his second race. In the small wheeled 85s Gino Rea headed race one with a start to finish ride, but the second race saw Lloyd Evans make up for his first race disappointment and led Gino all the way, Mitchell Jenkins had a good ride in race one with second and Danny Goodwin pulled off second O/A despite a poor last race.
The Junior 65s all got round the technical track much to the relief of the committee with Daniel Arnold and Mel Pocock making it look really easy as they took it in turns for wins as Damon Hill picked up a good third spot. Please book early for Ellens Green and if you are a schoolboy please tell your friends at other clubs we may be worth giving a try...........cheers John Powell
Apology..... Firstly TMX did not print any pictures from our Ellens Green meeting and as yet have not returned the negatives, so no more pics from that meet unless they do turn up. secondly I did not take many pics at Warninglid as I kept waiting for the weather to brighten up,... I will take loads at Ellens Green especially those riders who asked me to stick em on the web.......
